Plain definitions of the terms that come up when you buy privacy infrastructure — KYC, offshore hosting, KVM, IPMI, warrant canary, clean IPs, Tor relay versus exit, Monero, no-logs — with the nuance that marketing pages skip.

What is offshore hosting?
Hosting in a jurisdiction outside your own to gain legal distance, not magic immunity.
ReadIs no-KYC hosting legal?
Hosts aren't banks. No-KYC is privacy within the law, not immunity from court orders.
ReadNo-KYC
What "no-KYC" means for hosting: no ID, no phone, no documents — just email and password.
Read- No-KYC
- Hosting that requires no identity verification — no name, phone, or government ID. On NoKycVPS an email and a password is the entire credential. Full definition →
- Offshore hosting
- Hosting located in a jurisdiction outside your own (or outside an adversary’s easy reach), chosen for its legal and privacy posture rather than proximity. Full definition →
- KYC
- “Know Your Customer” — the identity-collection process banks and many hosts run at signup. Hosting providers are generally not legally required to do it. Full definition →
- KVM
- Kernel-based Virtual Machine — full hardware virtualization giving each VPS its own kernel, real root and the ability to load custom modules. All NoKycVPS VPS plans are KVM.
- IPMI
- Intelligent Platform Management Interface — out-of-band remote control of a physical server (power, console, reinstall) independent of the OS. Offered on dedicated servers over a private VPN.
- Warrant canary
- A regularly-updated public statement confirming no secret legal orders have been received; its disappearance is the signal. NoKycVPS publishes one monthly at /canary.
- Clean IP
- An IP address with no prior spam or abuse history, so it is not pre-listed on blocklists. Important for mail deliverability and outbound connectivity.
- RBL / DNSBL
- Realtime Blackhole List — a database of IPs flagged for spam. Mail from a listed IP is rejected; clean IPs avoid this.
- Tor relay vs exit
- A relay forwards encrypted Tor traffic between nodes; an exit is the last hop to the open internet and attracts abuse reports. NoKycVPS permits both.
- Monero (XMR)
- A cryptocurrency that hides sender, receiver and amount by default, making payments unlinkable on-chain. The recommended way to pay for hosting privately.
- No-logs
- A policy of not retaining traffic or flow logs that could identify a customer’s activity. NoKycVPS keeps no flow logs and stores root passwords encrypted at rest.
- WHOIS privacy
- A service that hides the registrant’s personal details in public WHOIS records while you remain the legal owner of the domain. Free on every NoKycVPS TLD.
- Bulletproof hosting
- Marketing term for hosts that ignore all abuse and law. NoKycVPS is not this — it is legitimate privacy hosting that acts only on a binding court order.
